Road to campus named Husky Way

August 29, 2005

The portion of Route 195 from Tolland to the University has been renamed UConn Husky Way.

The change resulted from legislation introduced by Rep. Claire Janowski (D-Vernon), a member of the House Transportation Committee. She initiated the bill after a request from Amarjit Buttar, a member of the Vernon Board of Education and a Husky fan.

“Mr Buttar’s passion for the University and the Huskies is a common trait in Connecticut and a point of statewide pride,” Janowski said.

“The designation of the Huskies is a great way to honor the academic success and the many basketball championships of our state’s premier university.”

Buttar’s son, Gursimrit Singh Buttar, is a 1995 UConn graduate who was sports editor of The Daily Campus in 1994-95.

Naming the roadway for the Huskies“is not only a tribute to the excellence of past UConn teams,” Buttar said, “but also a well-deserved recognition for their contribution to the University and to our state.”
