Environmental Awards Offered The Environmental Policy Advisory Council is accepting nominations for the University’s first Environmental Leadership Awards, to be presented on Earth Day 2005. Winners will be selected in six categories: student; faculty/administrator; staff; UConn-affiliated groups; alumni; and special recognition, awarded to an external person or group. Nominations will be accepted through March 1. “Environmentally, UConn has made good progress during the past few years,” says Richard Miller, director of environmental policy. “The purpose of these awards is to encourage initiative and teamwork by providing recognition for the achievement of shared environmental goals.” Winners will be selected for proven dedication and outstanding contributions to the principles of environmental leadership, as outlined in UConn’s environmental policy statement on the website. The awards will emphasize achievements between September 2003 and March 1. Recipients will have exhibited leadership by helping ensure environmental compliance or improving the University’s performance in environmental initiatives; promoting responsible management and growth in environmental practices; demonstrating UConn’s environmental stewardship through outreach activities; advancing the understanding of the environment through education; or increasing UConn’s use of environmentally sustainable products, materials, or services. Complete criteria and nomination forms are on the website. For more information, call 860.486.8741. |
