The Towers Dining Hall will be renamed to honor Roger A. Gelfenbien, former chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Gelfenbien, a 1965 graduate of UConn’s accounting program, whose wife Margie and daughter Jill are also alums, was chairman of the board from 1997 to 2003.
Before becoming a trustee of the University, Gelfenbien had served as chair of the advisory board for the Department of Operations and Information Management in the School of Business, and as chair of the Foundation Board of Directors.
The University has a longstanding tradition of naming facilities in honor of former chairs of the Board of Trustees, including Rome Commons (for Lewis Rome, chairman from 1992 to 1997); the Canzonetti Building at the Health Center (for Andrew Canzonetti, chairman from 1980 to 1992); and the Tasker Admissions Building (for Gordon Tasker, chairman from 1972 to 1980).
Other buildings named for trustees including the Budds Building and Shippee Hall.
The Board of Trustees approved the name change for the Towers Dining Hall on April 10.
