The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, run by volunteer accounting students in the School of Business, will prepare simple federal and Connecticut state income tax returns free of charge for low-income U.S.
residents and nonresident aliens.
Form 8843 will be prepared for international students at this time. Help is also available to members of the public.
The sessions are offered in the School of Business on Tuesdays, March 28, April 4, and April 11 and Thursdays, March 30, April 6, and April 13, at 5 p.m.
Sign-up is in Room 204, School of Business, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Taxpayers should bring a copy of their 2004 tax return (if one was filed), and all documentation for their 2005 tax return, including W-2 forms and 1099 forms.
International students must also bring their passport and visa and any 1042-S forms (similar to a W-2).
After signing up, participants must remain on-site until the VITA rep says they are ready for tax return preparation assistance.
Tax return preparation sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. and will take place in the order of the numbers given out.
Appointments are not available and assistance will be provided only during the preparation sessions.
The volunteers can only help with Connecticut and federal forms.
Please do not contact the accounting department for tax help.
