Leadership Training To Begin This Fall

The Department of Human Resources and the College of Continuing Education are launching a new leadership and development program this fall.

The program is designed to provide tools and techniques for effective human resource management and employee development, based on the belief that all employees have a desire to learn and to continue to grow. The goal is to equip University employees with the tools they need to achieve their personal goals as well as the overall goals of the University.

A pilot program this fall is the forerunner to a more extensive training initiative that will be offered in the spring.

  • Areas of focus are:
  • resolving conflict with others
  • how to mediate conflict
  • ethics in the workplace
  • preventing and responding to violence in the workplace
  • workplace safety - understanding OSHA standards
  • supervisory studies certificate program, including:
    • effective communication
    • performance management
    • work teams
    • situational leadership.

There will be an Open House for the program on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Bishop Center. Staff from the Department of Human Resources and the College of Continuing Studies, and program faculty, will be available to discuss the program and answer questions about the curriculum. A light lunch will be provided.
