Austin Honored For Efforts To Reduce Underage Drinking

President Philip E. Austin has received an award from the Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking for UConn's "outstanding contribution to stopping underage drinking in Connecticut."

The award recognizes Austin's leadership in addressing underage drinking among college students through initiatives that include developing a task force to study the problem of high-risk drinking on campus; identifying 50 recommendations to improve the campus environment; and making a commitment to limiting alcohol marketing at the new football stadium at Rentschler Field. These recommendations, the coalition said, "serve as a model for colleges and universities across the state."

Austin received the award on behalf of the University on November 13, during the coalition's annual conference in Farmington.
