Search Is On For
Torrington Campus Director

The University has begun an internal search for director of the Torrington campus.

While the search is conducted, Melinda Rising, who has been a special projects coordinator at the Tri-Campus and is a former dean of academics at Northwestern Community College, will serve as interim director.

The new director will replace Adriane Lyon, who is considering another position within the University. "Adriane's service to UConn and to the Torrington campus has been an important part of keeping the campus alive," said Edna McBreen, associate vice provost for the Tri-Campus. "I am grateful for her dedication and hard work."

The search committee will be headed by David Williams, director of the Greater Hartford campus, and will include faculty and staff from the Torrington campus.

One of the criteria for selecting the new director will be commitment to the growth and development of UConn Torrington. Priorities for the future of the campus include establishing a comprehensive collaboration with Northwestern Connecticut Community College and other educational institutions in the Northwest Corner to better serve the educational needs of the region; expanding existing bachelor's degree programs (business and technology, urban and community studies, and general studies); offering new bachelor's degree programs; and offering master's degree programs, all where there is sufficient student demand.

The Tri-Campus consists of the Torrington, Waterbury, and Greater Hartford campuses of the University.
