Summer Horseback Riding Lessons Offered

Horseback riding lessons will be offered at UConn during the summer by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Participants can choose to learn huntseat, western, or polo.

Lessons are open to adults and children ages 11 and up. Riders will be placed into groups according to ability: beginners, intermediate, and advanced.

There will be four, three-week sessions at a cost of $100 to $200 per session, starting May 19.

The instructor will be Janice Callahan, a lecturer in animal science, assisted by several experienced undergraduate students. Callahan has extensive experience in teaching, training, and showing horses.

Interactive hands-on workshops on topics ranging from first aid for horses, longeing, grooming, and bandaging, will also be offered for people 13 years of age and older.

These day-long workshops are scheduled throughout the month of July, at a cost of $150 per session. Registration can be completed online; but space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
