UCPEA Members Ratify Concessions Agreement

An agreement between the University and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) to defer a scheduled July salary increase was ratified by UCPEA members on Tuesday, April 15, 494-77.

The Board of Trustees passed the agreement unanimously about an hour after the UCPEA vote was announced. The concessions agreement now heads to the state General Assembly, where legislators have 30 days to consider the agreement. If after 30 days the legislature takes no action, the agreement goes into effect.

The agreement saves the University nearly $3 million in 2003-04. In return for freezing salaries for one year, the University agreed there would be no financial layoffs during the term of the pact, which was extended for two years beyond its June 2005 expiration date.
