Coming to Campus

To announce a visiting speaker in Coming to Campus, send a brief description (maximum 300 words) of the event, including the date, time, and place, and giving the name, title, outstanding accomplishments and, if available, a headshot photo of the speaker to: Advance, 1266 Storrs Road, Storrs, CT 06269-4144 or by e-mail: advance@uconn.edu, with Visiting Speaker in the subject line. The information must be received by 4 p.m. on Monday, a minimum of one week prior to the publication date.

Publication will depend on the space available. Preference will be given to events of interest to a cross-section of the University community.



Women's Health Experts To Present
Information On Cancer February 11

Women's health experts from the Health Center will present life-saving information about new developments in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast and ovarian cancers on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the University's Alumni Center on the Storrs campus.

Sponsored by Celebrate Women and the Alumni Associations of UConn-Storrs and the UConn Health Center, the program is open to the public. Registration begins at 5 p.m.; the speaking program will run from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dr. Peter J. Deckers, executive vice president for health affairs at the Health Center and a nationally recognized surgeon, will talk about recent improvements in breast cancer care. Dr. Deckers also serves as dean of the UConn School of Medicine and has been involved with the National Surgical Adjuvant Project for Breast and Bowel Cancers (NSABP), the nation's leading organization in large scale breast cancer research for more than 25 years.

Dr. John D. Nash, a widely recognized expert in gynecological oncology, will talk about advances in ovarian cancer care. Nash is an associate professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Health Center.

Light refreshments will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. During that time, women will have an opportunity to learn about Celebrate Women, the new membership program at UConn Health Center, available at no cost or annual fee. Women who join Celebrate Women will receive timely health information, as well as invitations to lectures, health screenings, and other health-related events.
