Faculty, Staff Invited to Nominate Students for Gant Award
Nominations are sought for the 2002-2003 Edward Victor Gant Scholarships. The scholarships are a gift of the University's Board of Trustees and family and friends of Edward V. Gant, former provost and professor of civil engineering. Criteria for the award are: academic excellence, professional potential, dedicated service, and exemplary integrity. There will be two scholarships for the 2002-2003 academic year, each in the amount of $1,500. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student and one to an undergraduate student for continuing study at the University of Connecticut. The scholarships are open to students from all schools and colleges.

Faculty and staff may nominate students by writing letters of support, which address the four criteria noted. There is no nomination form, nor may students apply directly. All nomination letters should be submitted to Dianne Beer, Office of Student Financial Aid Services, Storrs Campus, U-4116, by Friday, March 15.

Nominations Sought for Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award
The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Instruction seeks nominations for the 2002 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award. Criteria for the award include evidence that the advisor demonstrates effective interpersonal skills; engages in developmental advising; is knowledgeable about university policies and resources; and values and participates in professional development activities to improve and expand advising skills. A faculty member may be nominated by another faculty member, by a staff member, by a student or by an alumnus or alumna.
