Arts Event Pays Tribute to
Hartford Music Professor

An artistic collaboration of painting, poetry, and music is scheduled at the Greater Hartford Campus as a memorial tribute to the late Maxwell Shepard, professor emeritus of music at the campus. The performance will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, 1800 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford. Admission is free. The snow date is March 3 The project, called "Museum Garden," is a song cycle inspired by favorite artworks from the Shepard and Kendra collection.

The music was composed by Australian Ann Carr-Boyd, whose work has helped pave the way for 21st-century Australian music. Her piece will be performed by the Walker-Elkof Duo, Estrid Eklof and Denise Walker.

The lyrics for the cycle were written by award winning author Mark Doty. Doty has published several books of poetry and three prose volumes: Heaven's Coast, Firebird, and Still Life with Oysters and Lemon.

The artists to be included are Ramona Bronkaar Bannayan, Walter Kendra, Janice LaMotta, Bruno Leti, and Sol Lewitt.

The artwork will be on display after the performance in the undergraduate art gallery located at 85 Lawler Road.
