Memorial Service Set for Student

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 6 at Storrs Congregational Church for Elizabeth (Liz) Nicholson, a UConn senior from Guilford, who collapsed and died last Tuesday as she prepared for a recital at von der Mehden Recital Hall.

A trumpet player and member of the University Symphonic Band and the UConn Wind Ensemble, Nicholson was one of a growing number of female brass players at UConn, said Robert Miller, head of the music department. She was expected to graduate in May 2002.

"The entire University community mourns this sudden loss and extends its condolences to Elizabeth's family and friends," Vicky Triponey, vice chancellor for student affairs, said Tuesday night. "She was a cherished member of our University family."

A brass ensemble, trumpet choir, carillonneurs, and a trumpet soloist will perform during the memorial service.

Contributions in her memory should be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01141.
