Construction Begins on
New Shuttle Bus Shelters Before the worst of the winter winds blow across campus in February, five more shuttle bus shelters will be constructed in Storrs. Fencing was installed last week on each side of Gilbert Road for two of the about 8- by 15-foot shelters. Preliminary work will begin on three others - on Hillside Road in front of the Student Union, and on each side of North Eagleville Road, near the Edward V. Gant Science Complex and in front of North Campus - later this month. University officals agreed to construct the new shelters during negotiations several months ago regarding parking concerns expressed by leaders of the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association. Those discussions also led to the University's decision to name a parking ombudsman. The shelters are being funded through the UConn 2000 program. Richard Veilleux |
