Chancellor's Research Award Winners Named
The award-winners in two University-wide research competitions have been announced recently.
The Chancellor's Research Fellowship program offers an opportunity for release time from teaching for one semester to eligible faculty engaged in long-term research projects. This year, the AAUP agreed to set aside $42,000 from its Professional Development account to fund the program. This competitive program is designed to support and promote long-term research projects that cannot be funded via other, more traditional avenues. The Chancellor's Research Excellence Awards recognize excellence in research at the Storrs and regional campuses. Faculty members at all stages of their careers, from senior researchers to young investigators, are eligible for these awards, but at least one of the four awards each year is reserved for a faculty member who is within 10 years of receiving the highest degree in his or her field. The Research Excellence designation is accompanied by a stipend of $2,500, to be used at the awardee's discretion in support of his or her research. The recipients will be honored at the May 2001 graduate commencement ceremony. Recipients of the 2000 Chancellor's Research Excellence Awards: Robin Coté
