Senator Harp Addresses Graduates
of Health Career Summer Programs

State Sen. Toni Harp (D-New Haven) was the keynote speaker on Aug. 4, during commencement ceremonies for five programs organized by the Health Center's Department of Health Career Opportunity Programs this summer. Sen. Harp, who is serving her fourth term in the state Senate, is co-chair of the Public Health Committee.

Nearly 100 participants in the following programs were honored during the ceremony: the Health Careers Discovery Program; the High School Student Research Apprentice program; the Pre-College Enrichment program; the Summer Research Fellowship program; and the Science Teacher Fellowship program.

Throughout the year, the Department of Health Career Opportunity Programs organizes a series of programs to reach out to minority and disadvantaged students, and their teachers, in an effort to encourage more students to consider health-related careers, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacology, biomedical research, and more.
