Volunteer Group Assists Medical,
Dental Students with Scholarships

The Health Center Auxiliary Scholarship Assistance Program has announced the recipients of this year's Auxiliary Scholarship. Twelve dental and medical and dental students will receive scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each:

Dental students Alla Sinitski, '01; Amy Ferson, '01; Zhuo Li, '02; and Blythe Pikosky, '02; and medical students Aleksandr Gorenbeyn, '01; David Shapiro, '02; Nicholas Evageliou, '02; Sarah Schlegel, '03; Heidi Elliott, '03; Christopher Olson, '01; Umer Chaudhry, '01 and M. Jeremy Astle, '01.

The scholarship assistance program, one of the first long-range goals established by the Auxiliary, a group of Health Center volunteers, has funded 111 scholarships, totaling $189,375, since 1979.

Several years ago, the Auxiliary also established a medical school scholarship named in honor and memory of Beatrice Fleeson, one of the founders of the Health Center Auxiliary, and William Fleeson, one of the six original members of the Health Center Planning Committee. This year, the Fleeson Scholarships were awarded to David Shapiro and Nicholas Evageliou, both Class of 2002. The scholarships will be presented at the annual meeting of the Auxiliary on June 27.
