An all-night charity dance marathon to benefit the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford will be held at Jorgensen Auditorium on Friday, March 10, beginning at 6 p.m. Events planned for the evening are speeches made by children and families who have benefitted from the Medical Center, a silent auction of university athletics memorabilia, free food, line and swing dances, live bands, comedians, a DJ dance party, karaoke, games, and more. The marathon will end at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 11. This is the first year such an event is being held at the University. Students from the Greek community have coordinated the Husky Midnight Marathon, with the help of an advisory board made up of faculty, staff, and administrators. Tickets can be purchased from the Jorgensen box office by calling (860) 486-4226. Admission costs $10 for general admission, $5 for non-UConn students, and $3 for students with a UConn ID. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. The goal of the marathon is to raise $30,000, of which $6,300 has already been raised. Contributions to the medical center can be made for various levels of recognition at the dance marathon, ranging from $50 to have your name on the flier, poster, and announced during the event, to $500 for a table and booth at the event. To help with the dance marathon or have a campus organization participate, contact Shaun Lee at (860) 429-6704 or Jamie Sadek at (860) 429-8495. Marisha Chinsky |
