Halloween Homecoming Has Sci-Fi Theme
October 25, 1999

The last homecoming weekend of the century will focus on the theme, "Spirits of the New Millennium: Rest In Peace 20th Century."

The celebration, which falls on Halloween weekend, October 28-31, will blend the spooky with science fiction.

Events kick off on Thursday, October 28, in the Student Union Lobby, with opening ceremonies and a "Psychic Fair." Later that evening a Haunted House, the Warrens', will be offered at Jorgensen Auditorium, and a showing of The Blair Witch Project.

On Friday, staff and faculty are invited to decorate their office for a contest held at noon.

In the evening, the 13th Annual Lip Sync and Royalty Pageant will take place at 8 p.m., followed by a late-night dance in Gampel Pavilion.

This year's Homecoming Parade - an event for the whole family - will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and the Alumni Association's Carless Tailgate will follow at 11:30 a.m., on the Student Union Mall.

In the afternoon, the football team will play against the University of Richmond at Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and, during halftime, homecoming royalty will be presented.

Evening entertainment on Saturday includes the folk and rock singer and songwriter Ani DiFranco, who will perform at 8 p.m. at Jorgensen Auditorium, and the PanHellenic Exhibition Stepshow and Party at the African American Cultural Center from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The homecoming celebration ends on Sunday, with a homecoming awards ceremony at 5 p.m. in the Nutmeg Grille.
