Trustees Transfer Noank Lab to State
August 30, 1999

The Board of Trustees, at a brief meeting in July, transferred UConn's former marine lab at 98 Main Street in Noank to the state Department of Agriculture for use in an aquaculture facility.

The property is no longer needed, due to the construction of the new Marine Sciences and Technology Center at the Avery Point campus, said Dale Dreyfuss, vice chancellor for business and administration.

The trustees, who conducted business by telephone, also agreed to name room 18A of the Institute of Materials Science the "Leonid V. Azaroff X-Ray Crystallographic Laboratory" in honor of Azaroff, the first diraector of IMS. The laboratory was funded with a $100,000 gift from the Rogers Corp., an original member of the IMS associates program. Azaroff, a professor of physics, served on the corporation's board of directors until last April.
