Dicks also received Fulbright award
Barbara Dicks, a professor of social work, held a Fulbright award under the Caribbean Regional Lecturing Program at the University of West Indies, Kingston,

Jamaica, during the 1997-98 academic year. Her name was inadvertently omitted from the list of Fulbright recipients in the November 30 issue of the Advance.

Local charity benefits from Co-op fund drive
The UConn Co-op has given more than $2,500 from its annual holiday fund drive to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic.

The amount, the proceeds from wrapping holiday gifts for customers, is the Co-op's largest ever donation to the charity.

Stamford campus renovation recognized
The downtown Stamford campus has received the 1998 Renovation Project of the Year award in the New York Construction News Best of 1998 Awards program. The award was presented last month at the McGraw-Hill Auditorium, Avenue of the Americas, in New York City.

Instructional Resource Center has new site
The Instructional Resource Center, formerly known as the Faculty Resource Lab, has reopened in its new location in Homer Babbidge Library, Room 136A. Hours for the Center are: 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kim Chambers, manager of the center, plans to schedule formal open houses for members of academic departments and the university community at large to tour the facility and learn about its resources for using technology to improve teaching and learning at the University.

EMT skills training begins February 1
The Center for Professional Development, part of the Division of Extended and Continuing Education, is offering an Emergency Medical Technician Certificate program for those interested in pursuing a medical career.

The courses offered will help participants develop lifesaving medical skills, build a marketable career, and learn the necessary information to pass the state's EMT Certificate exam.

Classes will be held at the Bishop Center. The program begins Monday, February 1, and runs through May. Space is limited. Call (860) 486-3231 for more information.

Bicycle lockers available at Eastbrook Mall
The Town of Mansfield has installed six bicycle lockers at the northeast corner of the Eastbrook Mall, by TJ Maxx. The lockers, which are individually locking, enclosed, weatherproof storage units, each holding one bicycle, are available for use by bike/bus commuters and shoppers. Lockers may be leased for three, six or 12 months at a time. There is no charge for the lease, but a $10 key deposit is required. Lease applications are available at the Mansfield Public Works Department or by calling (860) 429-3373.
