New York City is coming to Storrs. "UConn Takes Broadway" is the theme of this year's Homecoming, October 23-25, a weekend of festivities for alumni and other members of the University community. The parade on Saturday will be decorated to recreate a sense of New York City. Along with the floats, campus roads will be lined with vendors and musicians. The parade and the Tailgate party will include jugglers and other attractions.. "The spirit of Homecoming is to bring students, faculty and alumni together," said Tamara Lover, student Homecoming chair. Lover and M. Kevin Fahey, senior associate director, department of campus activities, have worked with the Student Union Board of Governors, the Alumni Association, and the Office of University Events and Campus Relations and others to organize activities for all ages. Part of this year's planning for the parade involved deciding on the best route to follow. Owing to construction on campus, the parade will take an alternate route, traveling down Gilbert Road instead of Fairfield Road. The Broadway theme will be the focus of an office decoration contest among faculty and staff, that will be voted on by a panel of judges. And this year's annual lip sync competition will have students singing along to Broadway tunes. Other events planned for the weekend will include a pregame barbeque hosted by the Alumni Association, a reunion for the Class of 1973, and a reunion for former residents of the old South Campus. Other events include a fireworks display, an alumni fun run, an on-campus tour for alumni, and First Night, where the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.
