Individual students, student organizations and faculty were honored for their leadership, community service and academic excellence at the third annual Student Union Awards Program on May 4. The Booker/Wrobleski Student Organization Faculty Advisor Award was given to the Rev. Richard Gross, S.J., of St. Thomas Aquinas Church; Robert Smith, vice provost for research and graduate education and dean of the graduate school; and Harold Furr, associate professor of nutritional sciences. The President's Award went to the Qigong Club; the Chancellor's Award to the West Indian Student Awareness Association; the Vice Chancellor's Award to the Poultry Club; and the Husky Pride Award to the Polo Club. The Program of the Year Awards were given to the Irish Studies Alliance and TARANG. The Joan H. Rogers Outstanding Student Staff Award was given to Kelly Ann Kilbride, an elementary education major; Director's Awards were given to Rachel Heller, a political science major; Samarjit Rattan, a physiology and neurobiology major; Thu-Hong Vu, a management information systems major; Thomas Callahan, associate vice president for institutional advancement, and Robert Hudd, director of public safety and chief of UConn police. The Student Multicultural Award was given to Stiliani Papadopoulos, a human development and family relations major; Oscar Joshua Rodriquez, an education major; Patrick Swift, a graduate student in psychology; and Talitha Michal Wangerin, a graduate student in mathematics. The Spirer/Dueker Student Humanitarian Achievement Award was given to Aron D'Aquila, an education major; the Matthew B. Schechter Scholarship was given to George D'Agostino, a pharmacy major; and the Diane Gail Gellenbeck Scholarship was given to Rebecca Cipriani, an education major. Sherry Fisher |
