Eleven faculty members from five departments have been named by Susan Steele, vice provost for undergraduate education and instruction, as Hewlett Faculty Fellows for 1997-2000. As fellows, they will work on redesigning a number of high-enrollment survey and skills courses to include research experiences and other forms of active learning. They are also charged with sharing their experiences with colleagues within their departments and across the University, and with exploring ways to enhance learning by drawing on scholarship about pedagogy. The University has a three-year, $150,000 grant from the Hewlett Foundation to support innovation in the general education curriculum for lower-division undergraduates. |
