Women's History Month events celebrate women's rights movement
March 2, 1998
The University will celebrate Women's History Month in March
with lectures, films and an open forum. All events are sponsored
by the Women's Center and the Women's Studies Program, except
where specified. The national theme for the month is "Living the
Legacy - Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Women's Rights
Movement." Events are:

March 2-8 - Documentary Video. Give the
Ballot to the Mothers: Songs of the Suffragists. Written testimony,
musical performances, historical cartoons, photographs and scholarly
commentary. Shown on UCTV Monday through Sunday, 9 p.m.

- Exhibit. Humours, a mixed-media installation by Monica Bock,
assistant professor of art. Sponsored by the School of Fine Arts.

Women's Studies at the John Jay College and the Graduate Center

Spotlight on New Faculty. Jennifer Baszile, assistant professor,
history, whose specialty is American colonial history. Noon,

on the Women-Friendly Campus Campaign. Forum for students staff
and faculty to discuss discrimination issues, child care and
other issues facing women on campus. 7 p.m., Room 216A, Student
Union.

The Double Shift examines
women who have careers and raise families. 7 p.m., Women's Center

March 12 - Lecture. Patricia Ireland, President of the
National Organization for Women (NOW) will discuss what women
have gained since the start of the women's rights movement and
the importance of women of all ages becoming involved in the
feminist movement. 11:45 a.m., Student Union Ballroom.
