Vicky L. Triponey of Wichita State University has been named vice chancellor for student affairs, Chancellor Mark Emmert has announced.

Triponey, who is interim vice president for student affairs at Wichita State, will join UConn March 31. She will report to Emmert. Triponey replaces Carmen Vance, who has served as interim vice chancellor since Carol Wiggins retired last summer.

"Vicky Triponey brings with her substantial administrative experience in student affairs, impressive organizational and interpersonal skills, a spirit of innovation, and vision," said Emmert. "I am confident she will be a significant partner in the growth and development of the University's student programs, both academic and nonacademic," he said.

Barbara Redman, who chaired the search committee, said Triponey has an "excellent reputation with colleagues across the country" and "showed how well she related to various constituencies, including students, which is very important for her position."

Triponey has been interim vice president for student affairs at Wichita State University since July 1997. She was associate vice president for campus life there from 1994-1997 and associate dean of student life and services from 1989-1994.

Triponey was previously coordinator of student organizations and media at the University of Georgia from 1983-1986. She was also assistant to the dean of student life/director of orientation at the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, from 1980-1989.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have been invited to join the leadership team at the University of Connecticut," Triponey said. "This is definitely an institution 'on the move' and I look forward to being a partner in the cooperative efforts to enhance the total educational experience for UConn students."

Triponey earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Virginia in 1989, a master's degree in student personnel services from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1981, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 1979.

Triponey is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and has been one of the organization's regional vice presidents.
