Javidi honored as IEEE fellow

Bahram Javidi, professor of electrical and systems engineering, has been elected a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The award, granted to less than one in 1,000 members of the IEEE, is considered one of the most prestigious in the field of electrical engineering.

Javidi has also been honored as a fellow of both the Optical Society of America (part of the American Institute of Physics) and the International Society for Optical Engineering.

Javidi's recent work on laser security systems was profiled on CNN in May 1997. His research has also produced a computerized security system that can pick specific facial features out of crowds.
