The White House conference on child care will be broadcast via satellite downlink at the University on Thursday, October 23. The conference will examine the strengths and weaknesses of child care in America and explore how the country can better respond to the needs of working families for affordable, high-quality child care.

President Clinton and First Lady Hilary Rodham Clinton will host the first session from 10 a.m. until noon. The second session, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., will be hosted by Vice President Gore and his wife, Tipper Gore. Both broadcasts will be shown in room 208 in the W.B. Young Building.

Between the sessions, from noon to 2:30 p.m., the UConn Cooperative Extension System and Family Studies will hold an informal discussion on child care issues in the W.B. Young Building and offer a tour of the Child Development Laboratories. Faculty, staff, students and the public are encouraged to attend the broadcasts and participate in the discussion.

The Cooperative Extension System, which is sponsoring the downlink at UConn, is part of the National Network for Child Care, a group of professionals from across the country seeking to improve the availability of safe, caring and accessible child care for all children.
