Linguistics professor honored
Members and friends of the linguistics department recently honored one of their senior faculty members, Howard Lasnik, for 25 years of teaching at UConn. A special colloquium was held at the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, featuring talks by two of Lasnik's 30 UConn Ph.D. graduates. Lasnik also spoke on "Derivation vs. Representation in Modern Transformational Grammar." He was presented with two special honors: Volume 8 of the University of Connecticut Working Papers in Linguistics, Is the Logic Clear? Papers in Honor of Howard Lasnik, and a framed copy of the title page and table of contents for a forthcoming book, Step by Step: Essays on Minimalism in Honor of Howard Lasnik, containing papers contributed by his students and colleagues, to be published by MIT Press.
