writing recognized
April 25, 1997 UConn students have been awarded prizes from the English department for their creative writing. They will read from their stories and poems at 3:30 p.m. May 6 at the UConn Co-op. Elizabeth Bongiovanni, a junior, received the $1,000 Jennie Hackman Memorial Prize for the Short Story, for "Yielding." Marcel Leroux, a sophomore, received second prize for "Whales, Sandwiches, and You." John Caine, a senior, received third prize for "Rubber Band Archer." All three stories are published in Writing UConn '97, the annual undergraduate literary publication. Two students received Collins Literary Prizes: Stephanie Tyburski, a sophomore, for her story, "What Are We Going To Do Without Her" and three poems, and Michael Schiavo, a junior, for three poems.
