Nominees sought for award
March 14, 1997

The President's Advisory Committee on Diversity and Equity is seeking nominees for the annual UConn Award for Promoting Multiculturalism and Diversity.

The awa5rd seeks to recognize employees and departments for extraordinary efforts in pursuing multiculturalism and diversity. Up to $2,000 is awarded, and must be used internally to help sustain or expand a program or activity already in place. Individuals may use it toward professional development in the area of diversity.

Last year's winners were Michael Borrero, Linda Drake, Ramesh Malla and Sal Scalora.

All employees are eligible for the award. To quality, individual or group work and commitment should be demonstrated in at least one of the following areas:

  • Promoting a diverse environment and involvement with community service aimed at diverse populations.

  • Serving as an oustanding role model for staff and students from underrepresented groups, or for the campus at large.

  • Mentoring and nurturing junior staff or minority students.

  • Impacting on curriculum.

  • Recruiting and retaining minority and women students and staff and people with disabilities.

Nomination letters should not exceed 150 words. References and evidence of accomplishments should be attached to nomination letters. The deadline for nomination is March 28.

Nominations should be sent to Jaishree Gopinath, Office of Diversity and Equity, U-175.

Winners will be honored May 1.
